My Aged Care
Support at Home
At Balance Counselling & Wellbeing, we believe that emotional wellbeing is built through meaningful relationships, connection and participation in everyday life.
Our approach is guided by restorative and reablement principles, focusing on what you can do and supporting you to maintain your independence, confidence and sense of purpose. We don't simply complete tasks on your behalf; we work alongside you, building a genuine therapeutic relationship that empowers you to continue living the life you choose.
We know that feeling heard, valued and connected can be just as important as practical assistance. That's why every session combines professional counselling with personalised support in the places where life happens, helping you remain engaged with your community and the people and activities that bring meaning to your life.

How much does therapeutic wellbeing support cost?
Therapeutic Wellbeing Support is provided in 3-hour sessions for $360 ($120 per hour) and includes up to 20 km of travel. Additional travel may incur a small fee. All fees are clearly displayed when booking through Halaxy, and we're happy to provide a personalised quote before you book.
Is this funded through Support at Home?
Yes, Therapeutic Wellbeing Support may be accessed by eligible clients who self-manage their Support at Home funding or receive services through an approved provider. As this service is delivered by a qualified counsellor and is therapeutic in nature, it may be considered a clinical support under the Support at Home program. Clinical supports generally do not attract a client co-contribution. However, funding arrangements and service classifications may vary between providers, so we recommend confirming this with your Care Manager or Care Partner before booking.
Do you accept Support at Home through My Aged Care?
Yes. While Balance Counselling & Wellbeing is not a registered Support at Home provider, we welcome referrals for clients who self-manage their Support at Home funding through an approved provider. If your provider allows you to choose your own service providers, you may be able to engage us to deliver Therapeutic Wellbeing Support, subject to your Care Manager or Care Partner's approval.
We are currently an approved provider with Dulcie Home Care and Trilogy Care, and can also register with your preferred home care provider. Simply contact us to discuss your needs, and we'll take care of the registration process.
What is therapeutic wellbeing support?
Therapeutic Wellbeing Support is a unique service that combines professional counselling with practical, community-based support. Delivered by a qualified counsellor, each session is tailored to your individual goals and may include counselling, attending appointments, shopping, community participation, gentle walks or social outings. Beyond completing activities, we focus on building a genuine therapeutic relationship that supports emotional wellbeing, confidence and independence. Rather than simply accompanying you to appointments or activities, we work alongside you using a restorative, reablement approach which includes building on your strengths, encouraging participation, and supporting you to maintain the skills, routines and social connections that are important to living well at home. Research consistently shows that strong social connections and trusted relationships are fundamental to healthy ageing, improved mental health and overall quality of life.
How is this different from traditional support work?
Unlike traditional support work, Therapeutic Wellbeing Support is delivered by a qualified counsellor who integrates counselling and emotional support throughout the session. Rather than simply completing tasks, we work alongside you to build confidence, develop coping strategies and strengthen resilience.
A key difference is the emphasis on therapeutic relationship. Consistent support from someone who knows your goals, understands your story and walks alongside you over time can reduce loneliness, increase confidence and improve overall wellbeing. Every interaction becomes an opportunity to support your emotional health while helping you maintain your independence.
Who is this service suitable for?
Therapeutic Wellbeing Support may benefit people who are:
Feeling isolated or lonely
Adjusting to ageing, illness or changes in health
Living with anxiety, depression or grief
Looking to maintain their independence and confidence
Wanting support to reconnect with their community
Seeking a more personalised and holistic approach to wellbeing
Why are sessions three hours long?
Meaningful change takes time, and so do meaningful relationships.
A three-hour session provides the opportunity to combine counselling with practical support in the community without feeling rushed. It also allows time for genuine conversation, reflection and connection while engaging in everyday activities. Whether attending an appointment, enjoying a coffee or walking along the beach, these shared experiences help build trust and create opportunities for therapeutic conversations that often don't occur in a traditional counselling room.
What might a session include?
Every session is tailored to your goals and interests. Depending on your needs, sessions may include:
Professional counselling
Attending medical or specialist appointments
Shopping and everyday errands
Community participation
Visiting a café or meeting friends
Gentle walks
Building confidence using public spaces
Developing routines that support independence and wellbeing
Why combine counselling with community support?
Emotional wellbeing doesn't only happen in a counselling office - it develops through everyday experiences and meaningful relationships.
Research shows that strong, supportive relationships are one of the most important factors influencing mental wellbeing, resilience and healthy ageing. By combining counselling with practical support in the community, we can help you apply new skills in real-life situations while building confidence, reducing isolation and strengthening your connection to the people and activities that matter most.
Why choose Balance Counselling & Wellbeing?
Our service is delivered by a qualified counsellor with extensive experience in ageing, disability and mental health. We understand that emotional wellbeing is closely connected to staying active, maintaining relationships and continuing to participate in everyday life. By combining counselling with practical support, we provide a personalised service that helps you build confidence, maintain independence and continue living well.
Where do sessions take place?
Sessions can take place in your home, within your local community or a combination of both. We work with you to choose locations where you feel safe, comfortable and supported. In your first session we will develop a wellbeing plan that meets your needs.
